A popular topical ointment brand earned attention online after joking that it would turn its products electronic amid the “trends in the digital entertainment industry.”
On Sunday, July 5, Katinko posted a statement on its social media page telling customers that it would “transition to a digital pain relief product.”
“In response to trends in the digital entertainment industry, #KatinkoPhilippines will pause production of physical products effective April 1, 2027 and transition to digital pain relief product,” it said.
“Ka-Team will be able to download our complete range of liniments, ointments, bar soaps, inhalers, liquid soaps, alcohols, candles and other muscle and body pain relief using K-odes (Katinko Codes),” the brand added.
“With the power of imagination, they can enjoy every haplas in an entirely virtual manner. We thank our consumers for embracing this exciting new chapter as we continue to innovate for the future. Please haplas and imagine responsibly,” it continued.
The post has so far garnered 24,000 laugh reactions, 2,400 shares and 1,400 comments.
“Pinasasakit niyo ulo namin para tumaas ang sales!!! UGHHHHHH HAHAHAHAA,” a Facebook user commented.
“Yes, ipapahid or aamuyin ko na lang phone screen ko. Sana 2027 na. Thank you #katinkoph,” another quipped.
“It’s all in the mind, ika nga. Haha,” another Pinoy wrote with a laughing emoji.
Katinko is known for its liniments, ointments, inhalers and sports sprays designed to relieve muscle and joint pain, headaches, insect bites nasal congestion, and other concerns.
Meanwhile, the brand’s post was perceived by some as a reference to Sony‘s announcement that it would stop manufacturing physical discs for all new PlayStation games released after January 2028.
Under the change, new game releases will be sold digitally through the PlayStation Store and other retailers.
“As consumer preferences and the broader entertainment industry continue to shift away from physical discs to digital, physical game disc production for all new games releasing on PlayStation consoles will be discontinued starting January 2028,” Sony said before.
“Following this date, new games will be available on PlayStation Store and at retailers in digital formats only. This transition has no impact on games that already released, or will be releasing, prior to January 2028 in disc format,” it added.
“This is a natural direction for Sony Interactive Entertainment to adapt to consumer trends as the general preference for digital media significantly outpaces physical discs. This transition will enable us to align more closely with how most of our community prefers to access and play games today,” Sony further said.
